Leica M10, is it worth it?

Yes & no, let me explain.

It has nothing, no auto focus, no video, no eye tracking, no EVF. All that is left to my Sony camera’s that I use to shoot weddings. What the Leica M10 does have is charm. While that is completely intangible, the second you hold one it makes sense. Its not the right camera for 99% of people, it hasnt suddenly made me a fantastic photographer. if anything while I am learning the system, my photography is going to struggle. MMostly to be infocus. But god I love it. I love how it feels, how I know have to think about my exposure and not just let the EVF do all the heavy lifting. I enjoy the fact it makes me experiment and try new things.

With my Sony’s I would shoot everything at f2 or lower, using my G-Master lenses. Im shooting a lot more around f8 now and the depth of focus is fantastic. Is it wrong to say it feels like using a film camera? I turn the screen off, I dont check images. Its like the good old days of hoping and praying you got the shot. Like weddings there is no second chance with street photography, couple that with a range finder and I am finding going out to shoot exciting.

The fact is the M10 is old! the screen sucks. If you look at your images after shooting. They will look dark. The meter, especially in auto modes is odd. It works but not quite how you might expect. I find myself popping the camera into lie view if the lighting is challenging. But for most of my photography i spot meter the scene and make decisions based on the light.

Im looking forward to shooting some more with the M10. The thing is I am undecided if it will be staying around. If Fujifilm were to release a X-Pro 4. I think I would be very tempted. Watch this space, after I have done some more shooting with my Leica M10, I will write another post.
