Seasons of creativity

As the owner of Wychwood Weddings, the start of wedding season is always a whirlwind. The excitement of new couples, the detailed planning, and the joyful celebrations fill my days with purpose and energy. Yet, amid the hustle and bustle, I found myself neglecting something very dear to me—my love for photography.

Photography has always been my muse, my creative outlet, and my sanctuary. It’s where I find peace and express my innermost thoughts and emotions. But as the wedding season got underway, my camera started to gather dust. The very tool that once felt like an extension of myself became a neglected piece of equipment, sitting unused in the corner of my office. Just waiting for the next wedding to come along.

I didn’t notice it at first. I was so consumed by the demands of my business that I didn't realise how much I missed the quiet moments spent capturing the world through my lens. Days turned into weeks. The spark that once drove my creativity seemed to have dimmed.

Then, something magical happened. One evening, as the golden hour bathed the landscape in a warm, ethereal glow, I felt an undeniable pull to pick up my camera. I ventured outside and started taking pictures. It felt like reuniting with an old friend. The joy, the thrill, and the sense of fulfillment came rushing back. I had found my muse again. It was a unremarkable Wednesday evening walk that did it, nothing special, nothing memorable. It was like when Winter turns to Spring. It was a long time coming.

This experience got me thinking about the seasons of creativity. Just like nature, our creative lives go through cycles. There are times of intense productivity and inspiration, akin to spring and summer. Then there are periods of dormancy, like autumn and winter, where our creative energy seems to hibernate. I realised that my recent phase was simply a winter of creativity. It wasn’t an end, but rather a necessary period of rest and reflection.

Now, as I emerge from this creative winter, I am bursting with ideas for new photography projects. The world seems full of possibilities again. I’m excited to explore different themes, experiment with new techniques, and push the boundaries of my art. Whether it’s capturing the raw emotion of a candid moment, the intricate details of nature, or the vibrant energy of urban life, I feel invigorated and inspired.

Rediscovering my love for photography has reminded me of the importance of balance. While my business and my clients are incredibly important to me, so too is my creative passion. It’s the very foundation of why I started this journey in the first place.

So, here’s to embracing the seasons of creativity—to honoring the cycles, the ebbs, and flows. Here’s to finding inspiration in unexpected places and rekindling the fire within us. As I move forward, I’m committed to nurturing my creative spirit, no matter the season. I’m excited for the projects that lie ahead and to share this renewed passion with all of you.
